How to open an HUF demat account online on Arihant Capital?

You can open a Hindu Undivided Family (HUF) trading and demat account with Arihant Capital entirely online through our website. The account is opened in the name of the HUF, operated by the Karta, with the other family members added as coparceners/members. 

Once the Karta completes Aadhaar e-Sign, the account is typically activated within 15 minutes, subject to review and exchange confirmation. 

Let’s look at the step-by-step process. 

Online process 

1. Go to www.arihantcapital.com and click on 'Open an Account' button on top or click here.  
2. First, enter your mobile number, and verify with the OTP received.  
3. Add an email ID (or sign up with Google) and verify it via the link sent to that email. 
4. Select 'HUF' as the account type, then enter the HUF's name as per PAN, the HUF PAN number, and date of incorporation. 
5. Enter the Karta's name as per PAN, PAN number, and date of birth. 
6. Complete Aadhaar verification for the Karta via DigiLocker - log in (or enter the DigiLocker security PIN if already registered), verify the OTP sent by UIDAI to the Aadhaar-linked mobile number, and give consent to share the Aadhaar and profile details with Arihant Capital. 
7. Enter the Karta's personal details - gender, marital status, occupation, income, and permanent address, then add the coparceners/members' details and signatures. 
8. You need to verify the HUF bank account, either via UPI or by entering the IFSC code and account number manually. If the bank account name doesn't match the PAN records, this isn't a blocker; a cancelled cheque or passbook copy can be uploaded later to confirm it. 
9. Choose the brokerage plan (equity, F&O, currency, and commodity), then select the DP scheme and the segments to activate (e.g., NSE, BSE, Mutual Funds). 
10. Complete the declarations and consents, including DDPI and the standard regulatory questions. 
11. Capture the Karta's live selfie and upload their specimen signature, along with the bank proof and the HUF's address proof documents. 
12. Complete the e-Sign process using the Karta's Aadhaar - this redirects to NSDL/Protean, where the Karta enters their Aadhaar/VID number and confirms with an OTP. 

Once e-Signed, the application is submitted for review. On approval, it's shared with the exchange and the account is activated - usually within 15 minutes. 

Things to keep in mind 

• Only the Karta goes through Aadhaar/DigiLocker verification, the live selfie, and e-Sign. Coparceners/members are added with their details and signatures, but don't need to complete these steps themselves. 

• The bank account must be held in the HUF's name, a personal account of the Karta or a coparcener cannot be used. 

• If the Karta's Aadhaar isn't linked to an active mobile number, DigiLocker verification (step 4) won't go through, since UIDAI sends the OTP to that number, this needs to be updated with UIDAI before the customer can continue online. 

• Guardians must sign on behalf of minor coparceners. 

• If opening the account after the previous Karta's demise, a notarised death certificate carrying the HUF seal and signature is required - reach out to support for guidance on the exact documents needed in this case. 

• A Karta's siblings are not eligible to be added as coparceners of the HUF.
