When you purchase or sell a stock, your holdings get updated the next day.  

Buy: When you buy a new stock and take its delivery, it shows up in your holdings on the next day of your purchase.   

Sell: When you sell a stock, your holding is updated the next day, but you can see a briefcase with qty tagged against the holding indicating the quantity sold today.
